The Makati Science Vision
Story to Tell. Lesson to Teach. Glory to Celebrate.

Story to tell. Lesson to teach. Glory to celebrate. This is the enduring anthem of The Makati Science Vision, the official student publication of the Makati Science High School. Born in the spirit of achieving excellence in campus journalism through hard work and utmost dedication, The Makati Science Vision has upholded its fundamental goals. For the past nine years, it has shared moving stories of love and hate, of enmity and friendship, and of loss and great victory. It has taught meaningful lessons in life through inspiring accounts of courage and perseverance. It has celebrated the glory of the rich social and cultural heritage of the Filipino people as it discovers the hidden treasure of the Malay race. Most importantly, it has glorified God who has bestowed the talent, the wisdom, the courage to the Filipino mind and empowered him to transcend barriers of mediocrity and to realize a common vision of a culture of excellence.

VOLUME X NUMBER 1

In celebration of the compelling history of the Filipino people, The Makati Science Vision Volume X Number 1 June-December 2006 features the rich influence of Spain on the Filipino household in Casa Manila: A Journey Back in Time, the cradle of the Philippine Constitution in For Love of God and Country: The Barasoain Church and the Malolos Congress Constitution, and focuses on their significance in reflecting precious fragile pages of the colonial past. The Makati Science Vision also presents an objective discussion of the life of Josephine Bracken in Jose Rizal’s Dulce Estranjera to unearth the mystery behind the last love in the life of Jose Rizal.

Discussions on the truth behind sociopolitical issues play a important role in The Makati Science Vision’s quest for excellence in campus journalism, evident in Crossovers: Media Practitioners in the Senate of the Philippines and Kachuru’s Three Concentric Circle, articles that analyze and interpret the trend of media practitioners “crossing over” to the world of politics and discuss the forms and subdivisions of the English-speaking world, respectively.

To underscore the significance of personal awareness among its reader, Fast Food and Things You Ought to Know and Need for Slumber showcase fresh and essential tips in living a healthy lifestyle. Save La Mesa Dam, Save a Million Lives, on the other hand, advocates the importance of social awareness and sustainable development, thereby encouraging a strong sense of social responsibility and concern for the natural environment among its readers.

Sketching the lives of Filipinos that reflect the positive Filipino values of perseverance, patience, humility, and vision, The Makati Science Vision introduces its readers to the live of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairman Efraim Genuino and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Most Valuable Player James Yap in No Guts, No Glory: Chairman Genuino and his Journey to Personhood and James Carlos Yap: From probinsyano rookie to PBA big star.

Endowing a warm and humble heart to The Makati Science Vision, the literary section imparts heartwarming accounts of love and sadness, and of life and death. But even as The Music Lives On and Melancholy describe the remorseful feeling of forever losing a loved one, there reflections share the importance of familial love and drawing strength from God when experiencing a sudden turn of fate. I Owe Charles and Only You, on the other hand, give testimony to the innate ability of individuals to change for the better.

As The Makati Science Vision continues to uphold its maxim, it gives tribute to times and events, places and peoples that shape the essence of our individuality and our destiny as a people of great cultural heritage. It echoes the struggles and the triumphs of the Filipino as he journeys through life, hails the ties of love and friendship that he shares with his friends, family, and environment, and celebrates the glory of God who has given him all the good and essential things that he needed to survive the harsh realities of life. A true labor of love, sacrifice, dedication, and perseverance, The Makati Science Vision commemorates the real meaning of human life with its page—each with its own story to tell, lesson to teach, and glory to celebrate.
